The interviews with a site director and a counselor both professionals in the educational field provided me insights into some issues that are affecting our children in their early years and adolescence. These professionals shared that they are involved and aware of current advocacy efforts. Both professionals shared an interest in health and wellness.that is not taking as serious issue;nevertheless, the poor attention to inappropriate eating habits could cause mental disorders as antisocial behavior and bulimia as the same that other many medical problems such as obesity and diabetes in the early years.
In addition, I gained the understanding that as advocate I always can step out and should not limit my skills to be a teacher in the classroom only. I can be the voice of others that do not have the skills or ability to fight for the help and resources needed. Three topics that I have in mind today is health, physical activities and nutrition. As teacher I feel the passion to be advocate to promote the understanding of the importance to eat right, exercise and enjoy. I am planning to promote it by my own example because I am obese and my plan is start new eating habits and exercise routine. In the same way I have interest to deeply investigate the reason of why education authorities do not make mandatory physical activities in the elementary schools.
There is quite a lot of research on this topic, Luz. I am glad that you will learn more about it. As an advocate, I would like to know more about how you think your efforts will make a change for yourself, the children and families you work with and for the field of early childhood education.
ReplyDeleteMy initial plan is inform and invite participants to honesty think and reflect on their family eating habits and physical activities. Through a bilingual presentation that I am going to offer in the CRCL Day care center where I am working I am going to present healthy meals easy to prepare and less cost. I am going to talk about my obesity and how little by little without noticed the weight have been increasing as the same that is increasing for many young children in our communities. I am going to share with participants my plan to increase physical activity for preventing and reducing the weight excess. Then I am going a simple physical activity to demonstrate them that not always is required a big space to exercise, stretching, stamping, clapping, dancing can be some easy physical activities to do at home. My plan is to recruit a small volunteer group to start this project with me. And then I plan to meet with these families once a week, finding a place where together could have a physical group activity, and later talk and exchange recipes, progress and future plans to weight control. I would like to have cooperation and in the future form support groups to bring more families to this project and start to develop this project in the communities too.
ReplyDeleteYou will do good in presenting your advoacy plan in a bilingual setting, you can do it. I had never had the opportunity to present in either, i had never presented anything at all. That is why my presentation is going to be very unique. You have the voice to present, specially since it is going to be hands on activities in your site and you will give the parents' physical activities to do at home also. It will be great if you could have activities twice or even three times a week, but since we are always consume in our work, we always tend not to have little or no time at all.
ReplyDeleteDear Luz
ReplyDeletewhat type of collaboration groups are you seeking out for your health and wellness plans? Maybe you can ask your parents to submit one of their favorite dishes recipes and see how these recipes can be modify to make a more healthful version of it, maybe you can utilize the health consultant/nutritionist who plans your menus from your site with this activity, anyway it just an idea.
Hey Luz, I really like the information you gave on your presentation, you really gave me some good ideas,so thank you for that! Well good luck on your advocacy plan, take care.
